Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep
Kavaratti Lighthouse
Kavaratti is the provincial capital of Lakshadweep.

I arrived here from Agatti. Compared to Agatti the island is more "modern". The traffic is certainly greater and there are a few traffic lights.

The best way to move around the island is on a bicycle. Head to beach on the western side(beside the helipad). On the beach is the small ship that ran aground in bad weather.

Lakshadweep
The lighthouse is open to public from 5pm to 6pm. From the top of the lighthouse the entire island can be seen. Beside the lighthouse is the eastern jetty. At night the jetty is full of anglers. The waters beside the jetty are teeming with shoals of fish.

Diving, snorkeling and glass bottom rides are available at Kavaratti. The aquarium on the island is a big disappointment.

Few hours boat ride away is the uninhabited island of Pitti. It is inhabited only by hundreds of birds. A permit is required to visit Pitti and I was not able to go there.

  2. The tourist permits are issued if one travels by the government conducted tourist package. Full board costs approximately 6000/- per day. To get around the tourist permit limitation, ask your friend in Lakshadweep to invite you to the island.
