Thattekad bird sanctuary trek

There are a few treks inside Thattekad bird sanctuary. All these treks inside the wildlife haven are organised by Kerala Forest department and have to be booked in advance. Winter season is the best time for treks. In winter, migratory birds arrive here in droves. I completed the trek in early October-24. Unfortunately, it’s too early and I did not spot even a single migratory bird.

Our forest guard had a gun to scare wild animals away.
I had booked myself for the longest hike at Thattekad (approx. 11 KM). Kerala Forest Department charges Rs 1500/- per person for this trek. A trekking group will have a max of 5 people. Each group of trekkers will be accompanied by 3 forest guards. One of them had a gun to scare wild animals. The forest guards are quite knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna  We finished this easy trek in about 3.5 Hrs. Unfortunately, even by the end of the trail, we had not spotted any wild animals The only wild “animal” we spotted was a rather large snake that managed to pass between our legs!
