Airavatesvara Temple is a Hindu temple near Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was constructed by the great king Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century. In 2004 the temple was declared as a UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
The plan was to visit all the 3 great Chola temples. Jan 2021 was in the middle of the COVID pandemic. To make matters worse, Tamil Nadu was being buffeted by heavy rains. The temple is flooded with water. Perhaps as a result, I am the only tourists in the entire temple complex.
